We will scrap all types of electrical wiring and cables from automotive, residential and industrial sources. This includes data cables (Cat 5, Cat 5a, Cat 6, Cat 6a etc), phone cables, power cords, USB cords, phone chargers and even speaker wire.
There is limited value in spare cables in the second hand market. As there tends to be significant levels of copper in most modern wiring, copper wire is an excellent source of copper for recycling.
This coupled with the finite nature of viable copper resources and high demand, causes there to be constant interest in electrical and data cables.
Electrical wiring is typically constructed from twisted copper with an insulated sheath which is typically made of rubber or thermoplastic insulation.
Aluminium wire was used between 1960 and 1970 in the USA due to the cost of copper, however very little of this made it into the New Zealand marketplace.
Most wiring will need to have the insulation removed from the metal core. This can be a very tedious process and hence is rarely done before being delivered. We will pay more for clean electrical wiring without insulation; however, the overall impact on value would be minimal with small volumes.
